My first poem ever :) I'm so brave!!!

TEA POT by Hilal Smith

Only and lonely sitting
next to the window sill,
watching sunrise every morning,
looking at the yellow garden wall.

Wondering 'Will it be my turn this winter?'
He doesn't like being dusty.
Never liked the summer either.
Thankfully he never gets rusty.

His red colour with an attractive curve,
he is always ready to serve.

Wensum Words - An Introduction

Wensum Words is a blogspace for students on the Access to HE Diploma in Creative Writing, English Literature & Journalism. The course runs at Wensum Lodge on King Street in Norwich and is now in it's third year.

What makes this blog unique is that the students display dratfs of work in progress and share it with the world. One of the essential parts of writing is the ability to share the work with the wider public, to let it find it's way in the world. A writer is sometimes like a parent waving goodbye to their child on their first day at school. There's an element of letting go involved, a hardening of the heart.

It also gives people a chance to see their work in print. When work is distanced from the author, then the small errors, the words that need replacing, start to show themselves. Someone, I forget who, said that Poetry is '...the least amount of words in the best possible order'. I think the same rule can be applied to all writing, and the sharper the ear, the sharper the pen.

I am looking forward to an interesting year in reading much academic, creative and professional writing.
